Description
The primary purpose of this product is to open up your floor space more, and to allow your hole to be covered with our Sven’s Sleeve Wheelhouse or Direct On Ice Sleeve and Cover systems. Additionally, by being able to forgo the use of your tripod or factory base, you will have an even more stable and balanced support system for your pole. We have designed this adapter to be structurally sound, require minimal cover modification, allow full hole coverage, and be universal for all factory and aftermarket forward facing sonar pole systems.
The following comes with every purchase:
- 1 – Pole Adapter Base
- 1 – Pole Adapter Bushing
- 1 – 1/2” Long 1/4”-20 Thumb Screw – used in the bottom hole to prevent your bushing from coming out of the base when lifting your pole. If your pole is wider than 1 3/16” but less than 1 3/4″, you will not use this bushing.
- 1 – 3/4” Long 1/4”-20 Thumb Screw – used to secure your pole to the bushing or base.
If you purchased the adapter only, please read the instructions at the bottom on how to properly drill out the hole in your cover. If you purchased a sleeve and cover package, we will provide a cover that will have the 2” hole already drilled into the cover so our adapter fits. If you purchased a cover package, this will not include the sleeve, but will include the cover that is predrilled so that you can use it in our existing sleeve products that you own.
Factory Poles – These poles only use the base of the pole adapter and not the supplied bushing. Make sure you keep the bushing so you save it if you upgrade to an aftermarket pole in the future. Your first step is to insert the adapter base into the 2” hole that has been drilled into the cover, and then screw the threaded ring tight against the cover so the base of the adapter will spin with the cover. The remaining steps are covered below:
- Garmin – This pole is often replaced with an aftermarket telescoping pole since you can only telescope in 12” increments. After separating the handle section of the pole, line the top coupler on the factory pole so it is flush with the top of the adapter base. Use the thumb screw provided and screw it tight to the pole so the pole does not spin. If you want the pole centered, you may want to add two additional 1/4” – 20 thumb screws (not included) to center the pole. Once attached, slide the bottom sections of the pole up through the bottom of the adapter and screw to the handle.
- Hummingbird Mega Live or 360 – This pole will require some disassembly if you are using this pole. This pole is often not used because it is long and non-telescoping. However, users like this pole since the cord is enclosed within the pole. You will need to remove the cap on top of the pole and the handle. You can then slide our adapter base (already attached to our cover) onto the pole at your preferred height, and then put the handle and cap back on. If you want the pole centered, you may want to add two additional 1/4” – 20 thumb screws (not included) to center the pole.
- Lowrance Active Target – We have not been able to confirm the fitment of our adapter for their factory pole. If the handle and the tripod are removable, and that section of the pole is less than 1 1/8” you will put the bushing on the pole and then re-attach the handle.
After Market Exterior Cable Poles (Summit, HD Innovations, Bass Khang, ArcLab, Brew City) – Your first step is to insert the adapter base into the 2” hole that has been drilled into the cover, and then screwing the threaded ring tight against the cover so the base of the adapter will spin with the cover. You will then remove the handle and the tripod and slide the pole through the bushing and adapter base that is attached to our cover. Set the height of your pole by screwing the thumb screw tight against your pole. You will then adjust the lower thumb screw so that the bushing is tight and does not spin since the goal is to have the pole, adapter, and cover spin all once so your cord does not get bound up. Once you have it all attached, put your handle back on. You will not need to put the tripod back on since it is not needed. If you want the pole centered, you may want to add two additional 1/4” – 20 thumb screws (not included) to center the pole.
If your pole is not listed above, we have not been able to check fitment to our base or bushing. Our bushing will accommodate any pole that is up to 1 3/16” thick. If your pole is thicker than this, our base will accommodate any pole that is between 1 3/16” to 1 1/2.”
After Market Internal Cable Poles – Your first step is to insert the adapter base into the 2” hole that has been drilled into the cover, and then screwing the threaded ring tight against the cover.
- Fish Armor – After attaching our adapter base to the cover, remove the handle, tripod and bushing. Slide the pole up through the bottom of the adapter, then put the fish armor bushing and handle back onto their pole. You will not need to put the tripod back on the pole. Set the bushing on your pole so that your handle will be at the preferred height once the bushing is dropped into our adapter base. Once it is dropped into our base, use the thumb set screw and set it so the bushing will not pull out of the base, but will allow you to still spin the bushing.
- Vexilar Vision – This pole is newer to the market, and is and 1 1/4” so it will not fit our bushing, but can be used with the base. We have need been able to confirm if their bushing will work with our adapter base. Use the thumb screw provided screw it tight to the pole so the pole does not spin. If you want the pole centered, you may want to add two additional 1/4” – 20 thumb screws (not included) to center the pole.
If you bought only the adapter and will be modifying the cover please note the following needs and recommendations:
- Clamp our cover to a board and drill press platform to prevent to cover from moving and center the hole saw over the cover. Line it up so the hole saw will remove all three rectangular injection points on the cover.
- Drill slowly into cover using 2” hole saw on a drill press. Using a hand drill is not recommended.
- If available, round the edges with a chamfer tool, deburring tool, or sand paper
Disclaimer: Any cover that has been modified from the original factory design by Sven’s Sleeve to fit the pole adapter, or that is modified by anyone else will not be warrantied in the event of breakage. While you should still have confidence in walking on the covers, there is a chance that the modifications that we have done or are recommending will result in some loss of structural integrity and become susceptible to breaking from less pressure than a non-modified cover when walking on, standing on, or jumping on them for any period of time. If you are modifying another companies covers we cannot make any claim to how their covers are effected if you modify their covers to fit our adapter.
